Community Grants
Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi is the local source for funding breast cancer detection, support and educational awareness in the Mid-South.
Through its 2020-2021 community grants, Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi is investing $363,827 in education, navigation, screening, diagnosis, treatment and support programs in our local communities to local organizations that serve uninsured or underinsured residents in our service area. Since it was founded in 1993, Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi has invested over 11.5 million in local breast health agencies and organizations.
It is estimated that 1 million women live in the Memphis area alone and over 1.5 million women live in Mississippi. The funds Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi grants to community programs in our service area have made a positive difference in the lives of those living with this deadly disease.
During the 2020-2021 grant cycle Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi and our grantees will provide services to nearly 10,000 and provide educational materials to over 30,000 people in our service area.
On August 1, 2017, Komen Memphis-MidSouth expanded our service area to include 16 counties that were formerly served by Komen North Mississippi. In March 2018, the Affiliate merged with Komen Central Mississippi and now Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi serves 14 counties in Tennessee and the entire state of Mississippi.
Our commitment to all who live in our new service area is strong and our goal remains the same: saving lives here at home.
We are committed to saving lives by reducing deaths from breast cancer in the U.S. by 50% by 2026. To help accomplish this we will work to provide breast health education and fund breast health care programs and services with quality providers for all women and men, regardless of age, who are underserved, underinsured, or uninsured in Memphis-Mid South and across the state of Mississippi. We also will help fund the best breast cancer research across the nation.
We remain committed to granting funds in the community in which they are raised, so your participation (registration, donation, voluntarism) is vital in helping us meet the needs of your local area.
Our commitment to you, in accordance with federal law, is that no person shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination in the community outreach and services of Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi.
