The mission of Susan G. Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi is to provide funding for breast health services, breast cancer education and outreach in our 21 county service area.
The Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi Affiliate of Susan G. Komen® is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research.
The Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi Affiliate’s service area covers 14 counties in Tennessee: Shelby, Fayette, Tipton, Lauderdale, Dyer, Haywood, Lake, Madison, Crockett, Hardeman, Henderson, Chester, McNairy and Hardin in Tennessee and the entire state of Mississippi.
Thanks to the thousands of people who participant in the Susan G. Komen Memphis-MidSouth Race for the Cure® and other Affiliate events each year, dedicated corporate partners and generous donors, Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi is playing a vital role in fighting breast cancer in our community.
Komen Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi:
- Is the local source for funding breast cancer detection and support projects
- Serves 14 counties in TN and the entire state of MS
- Funds vital screening mammograms, diagnostic testing and treatment through annual Community Grants
- Empowers Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi residents with information about the importance of early detection and being active in their breast health
North Mississippi Affiliate History 1998 – 2017
The North Mississippi Affiliate of Susan G. Komen was founded in 1998 by a group of hardworking and dedicated volunteers who were committed to:
Raising awareness of breast health issues.
Educating the Northeast Mississippi community on breast cancer statistics and Susan G. Komen’s breast health recommendations.
Raising funds to fund local education, screening and treatment grants, as well as research grants at the national level.
Komen North Mississippi served 16 counties: Alcorn, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Clay, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Lowndes, Monroe, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Oktibbeha, Tishomingo, Tippah and Union counties.
In August 2017, Susan G. Komen Memphis-MidSouth expanded our service area to include the 16 counties previously served by the former Komen North Mississippi.
